Here's some pictures taken taken on the CCA meeting on 10th February 2012, made into a slideshow! :)

After roll call, the Sec1s & Sec2s were taught how to tie the GG scarf & the Sec4s refreshed their memories on how to tie the GG scarf in the correct way. :) After that, we had a surprised farewell party specially planned for our dear guider, Ms. Chin! ♥ We had food, drinks, quiz about Ms. Chin & a song performance by the Sec4s & Shanne! :)

3rd February 2012, marked the first day of the guiding journey for our newly joined Secondary 1 guides! Our guides company even wore our full GG uniform to welcome them! ^^

Finally, our new batch of Sec1s have officially joined us! :D

On the first CCA meeting of 2012, we started off the day with roll-call as usual. We did some warm up exercises and headed to the field for our PT. After PT, we had games! :) The first game played was: The Longest Line!

After these 2 games, we spent some time with our patrol and also shared on we spent our holidays. :) Then, we had a short game of Wacko before we were dismissed for recess. After recess, we had a small competition among the patrols on our knowledge of Girl Guide. Then, Ms. Lio gave us a list of 10 items which we were supposed to find & collect around the school in 10 minutes. Here's the list of items we were supposed to find:

Reflections from Service Learning Trip to Cambodia

"We went to Sunrise Village for our CIP project. The children were really active. We taught them how to fold stars. The children were willing to learn it. We were so touched by the children."

"At our home stay we learnt how to make art and craft. Crafts like using beads to make dragonflies, we learnt how to stitch using cloth and cotton. This crafts I have never tried making before. As usual, we began the CCA meeting with roll-call which was followed by 2 rounds around the field for PT. (: After recess, the Sec2s & Sec3s worked on the criteria to get the Artist Badge while the Sec1s were working on their Crime Prevention badge. :)

One of the criteria for the Artist Badge was to sketch out the shape of this item shown to us!

Another criteria was to draw a poster for Thinking Day 2012 on the theme: Girls Worldwide say, "We Can Save Our Planet".

23rd September, marks the last CCA meeting before the EOY examinations. We had our usual roll-call in the morning followed by a game of Husband & Wife. After that, all of us were dismissed for recess. After recess, the Sec1s had their 5-point programme while the Sec2s & 3s had footdrills. To end off the last CCA meeting before the exams, we had Guides' Own. :) Lastly, we did taps and were dismissed! :)

Good job to every single one who put in the effort to do the footdrills properly! :)

All the best for the upcoming EOY examination! Believe in yourself & you can do it! Study hard! :D

On 15th August, Ms. Chin brought 9 guides down to St. Theresa Convent for their Cookies & Cupcakes making initiative. :) When we reached there, we were divided into groups of 5 and 4. One group of us did cookies & the other did cupcakes! Our end product was yummy! :D After the cupcakes/cookie making, we had the NE quiz and all of us participated actively! (:

Singapore Children's Society Visit

On 13th August, about 24 guides went on a visit to the Singapore Children Society at Sunbeam Place as we were warmly invited by them in appreciation for our help in their Flag Day this year. :) When we reached there, the people in-charge gave all of us a presentation on how the whole Singapore Children Society functions and their environment. Later on, we were brought around the rooms that they lived in. What all of us took back from this visit is that: All of us are very fortunate that we do not experience the pain and sufferings that the children there, went through. And we should all appreciate what we have, and the people around us.

On 5th August, the Sec1s & Sec2s were taught a different way of doing outdoor cooking! Instead of having to cook the food above the fire on the turfed ground, we now have a cardboard box as our 'oven'! Work was evenly distributed among everyone. Some helped in the making of the 'oven', some helped with the making of the amber and the rest helped with the mixing of the ingredients. :) And lastly, it was very heartening to see the Sec2s participating more actively and some of the Sec1s who took their own initiative to wash the used plates and utensils without anyone telling them to do so! :)

We began the CCA day with roll-call as usual. The PLs would check on our attire and report those with attire issues to the CL & ACL. Unfortunately, the CL was absent that day so the ACL took charge. After that, we did some stretching and played a game of Blow Wind Blow before we went for our recess at 9.30am. After recess, we carried on with some other games. After that, Ms. Lio showed us a few clips from Johnny Lingo. It was about a girl living in the village that was always hiding as her father always says she's ugly and so on. There was a huge transformation in the girl after she was married to one of the very capable bachelors in the village. After watching the clips, we had to draw something related to the girl's feeling in order for us to get our artist badge. It was an interesting activity as I got to do it with my 'sisters'. Finally, we ended the day with taps and dismissal. I wish that every Friday could be filled with fun and laughter.

On 15th July, Henderson Girl Guides went on a hike to a few heritage sites in Singapore! An example is the Raffles Hotel. :) The Sec3 guides also took photos of these heritage sites along the way as part of their task to completing and getting their heritage badge. However, a sudden heavy downpour spoiled the hike. While waiting for the rain to stop, we took shelter at the National Museum and at the same time visited one of the free historical exhibit there!

Just after my aLife lesson, I headed straight to the carpark next to the foyer. As usual, we did our roll-call. All the Patrol Leaders checked on our attire. After roll-call, we had our recess. At 10am, we slowly strolled to the parade square for the Enrollment Ceremony. During the ceremony, I learned how to work as a team. Teamwork is really important in forming the horseshoe . It was quite difficult. In the midst of the ceremony, all the Sec1 guides were required to recite the Three-Fold Promise. Mams than pinned the Trefoil on all the newly enrolled guide's scarf.

After the wonderful ceremony, we had some refreshments at the canteen. We were provided with fruits and sandwiches. Soon, we moved to the NE Square to collect our new CCA tee shirt. After that, some of our Sec3 guides shared their experience about the Camp Challenge. O think we can improve in our horseshoe formation the next time. By adding more quizzes and challenging activities, Fridays will be an interesting and a meaningful day to all guides.

Camp Challenge 2011!

Aafreen, Josephine, Shifana, Anu, Gayathiri, Renga, Christy and Edwyna went for the Camp Challenge from the 3rd June - 5th June. It was a 3D2N camp at Camp Christine.

On the early morning on 3rd June which marked the 1st day of the camp, we gathered in school and met Ms. Chin who was in-charge of us, with our heavy luggage and waited for the bus to arrive. We carried our poles and etc, on the bus and made our way to Camp Christine. It was definitely a long bus ride. After we reached Camp Christine, we settled down and had a briefing. The 1st day of the camp was basically pitching up our tent & making our gadgets.

On the 2nd day, we woke up at about 6am plus. We had our breakfast prepared by guides from another school. After washing up, we made our way to Botanical Garden. We were supposed to have a game of Amazing Race. However due to the heavy downpour, it was canceled. ): Miss. Goh awhile later, to take charge of us. :) So we headed back to Camp Christine and we had our activities indoor and also outdoor cooking. This outdoor cooking we did was very different from the one we usually do in school. We were suppose to create an 'oven' with a cardboard box and some aluminium foil! And later in the evening, we had quizzes on our knowledge on Guiding.

On the last day, Ms. Lio came to take charge of us. (: We did nothing much on the last day as the rain was rather heavy and no outdoor activities could be done. Around 2pm plus in the afternoon, we packed our stuffs & home sweet home! :D

I believe that the 8 of us definitely gained a lot of experience through this 3D2N camp. :) We learned how to do things in the proper Girl Guides way and even how to do outdoor cooking with just a cardboard box and aluminium foil!

Girl Guides Centenary Celebration

On 9th April, 9 Guides along with Chinyee headed down to Bishan Stadium in the morning for the Girl Guides Centenary Celebration and to receive our award. Even though we did not managed to get the Gold award, we believe that if we continue to work hard, we can receive the Gold award again next year. (:

Today after recess, we played a game of Amazing Race. My patrol, Sunflower only managed to complete 3 stations. Everyone in my patrol was quite tired from running from one station to another.

After that, we played a game of Husband and Wife at the NE square. I felt that this game was fun and interesting. One thing I dislike about the game was that there were lots of shouting and screaming throughout the game which was kind of noisy and irritating.

After that, Ms. Chin called us to gather around as she wanted to hand out some consent forms. After I received the Star-Gazing's consent form, I felt quite happy and was looking forward to the day of the activity.

Girl Guides this week was quite fun and interesting.

Indonesian Campfire

From 17th May to 21st May, HSS hosted some Indonesian visitors (students, teachers and parents). Brintha, Aisha and Afiqah from Girl Guides played host to some of the students.

On their last night here, HSS organised a campfire for them. The guides had the honour to organise and take charge of the wonderful event. Mr Simen Lourds was the Guest of Honor for the night. Many performances were put up for the night, including a dance item each by GG and NCDCC. The Indonesian students and teachers also performed for the audience :)

Zhong Hua Scouts and Guides Campfire

The guides attended a campfire organised by Zhong Hua Secondary School on 27 Mar 2010. There were more than 100 students in attendance and their parade square was flooded with people. We put up a performance and was voted the best dance of the night :)

Om Mar 19, 2010, 10 guides helped out in the Inter-unit gaming at Pitstop Cafe, Raffles Place. This is a joint activity organised by mayflower Secondary School and Greenridge Secondary School. HSS guides served as facilitators during the event.

Kim's Game on 26th Feb

HSS guides went to Snowcity to learn about Ice Cream making using liquid nitrogen. This was followed by a "fun session" in the snow chamber :)

Liquid nitrogen is so cold that your fingers will freeze and fall off if touched. So care must be taken when stirring the ice cream.
The instructor demonstrated the power of liquid nitrogen. A balloon was immersed into the liquid, which shrank immediately upon touching. However, it returned to its original size once taken out of liquid nitrogen. Why?

HSS Girl Guides Service Learning Trip to Chiangmai, Thailand – Day 7 (16th Nov 2009)

That day was our last in Thailand. We started off having a great time building the fence around the fish pond using cement. We all learnt how to mix and make cement from scratch.

Then we have to wash Phii Chai and Phii Tom’s car and got ourselves wet. At night, we went to Huen Nam Jai Orphanage (HNJ) and had dinner with the children there and taught them how to make friendship bands. In return, they gave us a tour around their home.

When all's done, we boarded the lorry and went back to pack our bags to get ready to go back to Singapore the next day. We should learn from the children of the different homes - even though they have a sad and pitiful past they continue to be cheerful and be strong to face the future.

This service learning trip built our character and taught us skills that we cannot easily learn in Singapore. Things are often not as easy as it seems to be therefore, we should not judge a book by its cover. For example, we saw the professionals’ wood carving, painting, cementing the wall and even making lanterns. We thought that we could do just the same, but we were wrong. Even though we did not do as well as theirs but we have fun (sanook) and we learn from what we did wrong and we try hard not to repeat it.

We also learnt that we should respect those older then us no matter senior, teachers, parents or principals. From what we saw, the students in Sanpatong Secondary school respect whoever older then them by bending down a little when they sees them and the students will usually take off their shoes to go into the classrooms and the teachers do not have to do that. We should also learn from the children of the different homes, even though they have a sad and pitiful past they continue to be cheerful and be strong to face the future.

Furthermore, we learnt that we should treat others like how we want others to treat ourselves. e Amway (home stay buddy) treated us gently; we also treated her with care like how she treated us. Most importantly, we learnt that even if we don’t really know each other’s language and we often got it wrong, we just laugh and sometimes it acts as an ice breaker to one another.

Not frogetting, we also learnt skills that we can never adopt in Singapore like rice harvesting and wood carving. Lastly, we should appreciate what we have in front of us and never let go of any opportunities to learn and change for the better.

HSS Girl Guides Service Learning Trip to Chiangmai, Thailand – Day 4 & 5 (13th - 14th Nov 2009)

On 13th Nov after breakfast today, we went with the Thai guides help out in New Life Centre. It is an orphanage with hundreds of children - some have aids. The children in New Life Centre sell their handmade work to earn pocket money.

We saw some drawings at the orphanage filled with words that said :

We have the right to make our friend.

We have the right to create a family.

We have the right to say NO.

We have the right to study and not work.

These drawings were done by the sexually abused children. It hurt to see them.

We had a buffet lunch with our Thai guide buddies and chatted with them. As this was the last day we see them, they gave us each a present for us to remember them as well as Thailand. We also brought gift for them from the New Life Centre. When it was time to part, we got down from the bus and took the lorry back to Narada Home to get ready and prepare for home stay.

Inez and Nicole went to Amway’s house. However, Chin Yee and Sabrina went to Dia’s house but we all had a great time together.

I learnt that we should treat others like how we want others to treat ourselves, since Amway treated us gently; we also treat her with care like how she treated us.

On 14th Nov, we got up at 6am. That morning, our buddy brought us to visit other places in village by riding bicycle. It was a cool morning and the scenery was beautiful.
We went to buffalo market for breakfast and to shop. Buffalo market was packed with lots of people, but we did not see any buffalo :( It was fun to shop with a teacher as she took care of us well.
After lunch at Narada Home we painted the Narada Home’s fence. That task did not look as simple as it was but all we need was patience. We got ourselves covered with splashes of paint and it was very difficult to wash off after that.
At night, we went to Khan Toak Traditional dinner. We had a very good seat where we could have a close view of the performance during our meal. I learnt that sometimes, things are not as easy as it seems to be therefore, we should not judge a book by its cover.

HSS Girl Guides Service Learning Trip to Chiangmai, Thailand – Day 3 (12th Nov 2009)

We woke up an hour earlier that day because we mistook the time that we were supposed to wake up for breakfast. However it is better to be punctual than be late.

After breakfast, Sanpatong Secondary school sent us an air conditioned school bus to fetch us to the school. When we reached the school, the principal, teachers and fellow sister guides welcomed us warmly. They treated us like VIPs and assigned us each a buddy. The Thailand girl guides were very polite and gave respect to whomever older then them; this is one point that we all should learn. They planned lessons for us, example how to cook some simple Thai Cuisine and how to make lanterns.

During recess, my buddy brought me to one of the 15 stalls to collect meal coupons of 20 Bhatt. I used this to buy mixed rice, drink and ice-cream. We were then brought to a air-conditioned room where all the other guides assemble to start a Thailand guides and Singapore guides exchange programme. We began the session with a song from each other’s schools followed by dancing to the song of "Loy Kratong".

We then acted a skit entitled "How Singapore got its name". It was really fun. We ended off by teaching them to make friendship bands. They also taught us to make Loy Kratong.

Alas! Its was time to say good bye, we boarded the bus back to Narada Home where we bathed and prepared for a session with FOS junior after dinner. We taught the children how to make friendship bands and ended off with jelly making sessions.

Today, I learnt that we should respect those older then us no matter senior, teachers, parents or principals. I also learnt that it is a joy to see people enjoying the sessions that you planned for them.

Rice harvesting needs a lot effort; and i learnt to appreciate how much work the workers put in . Although it was a hot day,I tried not to complain and did what I should do and found satisfaction. When there was a 1-hour rest, as I was very tired, I fell asleep within a minute!

We then went back to Narada Home for lunch feeling really sticky and uncomfortable; thus we went to bathe after that. Not forgetting that this village is a wood carving village, we went to the professionals next door to learn how to carve wood. Wood carving gave me a different mind set of doing work. Although it looked easy, it needed much time and experience to carve an artpiece.

After that, we had dinner and the six children in the home namely; Mai, Laila, Yupa, Sombat, Nook and Heir. We then learnt about their pitiful past. However, they are now given good parents, home and education things that we often take for granted in

Singapore

. I now cherish the good environment that we live in and feel how lucky we are. We should always learn from our past mistakes and never repeat it again. We should appreciate what we have in front of us and never let go of any opportunities to learn and change for the better.

HSS Girl Guides Service Learning Trip to Chiangmai, Thailand – Day 1 (10th Nov 2009)

Filled with excitement and anticipation for the next 6 days, we went to Changi International Airport. We took a 3 hour flight to Chiangmai, Thailand, via Silk Air. After we arrived at Chiangmai International Airport, we took a lorry and went to a supermarket to buy jelly powder for a jelly making session with the Friends of Singapore (FOS) junior children. This was followed by lunch - Tom Yum Soup Noodles. It was too spicy for me to finish even though Ms Leng told us that it was the best Tom Yum in Chiangmai.

After a 15mins ride on the same lorry, we arrived at a village. Phii Chai, the diver, drove us around the village to observe how the villagers lived. It was like back to the olden days… Thereafter, we were brought to Narada Home, the orphanage that we stayed for the next few days.

We received a warm welcome and were given an orientation. During the orientation, we learnt some Thai and more about Thailand and her culture. We were thrown a mission on the spot - to buy 3 things for dinner from the local wet market. Even though we had a hard time trying to pronounce the Thai words and asking for bargains, we managed to complete the mission. We helped to prepare for dinner and had a great time cutting the watermelons.

Today, I learnt that even if we don’t really understand each other’s language laughter can be an ice breaker to kill the silence at the awkward moment.

Day Camp 27th May - 29th May

We had a school day camp this year from 270509 to 290509 instead of an annual combine UG camp due to the H1n1 2009. All the CCAs started the programme in the morning and ended at 6pm; there was no stay-over allowed.

On the first day of the day camp, all the hendersonians reported to school at 0830. After morning assembly we were separated into various CCAs. The guides gathered at the parade square and had a briefing on the outdoor station games/ programmes that they would be doing afterward such as fire lighting, gadget making and axemanship. Every patrol got a turn to try at every station. I was one of the station masters of gadget making, teaching the guides how to tie simple knots such as clove hitch and square lash, ways of handling a mallet, malleting the poles into the ground to how to get a kitchen dresser built from beginning to end. I can see guides cooperating with one another, giving each other a helping hand to build up that kitchen dresser. We can see how contented they were after getting the dresser built by seeing the smile they had.

On the second day, we started our meeting at 0745am. We went for hike. Through this hike, I discovered a lot of things I never knew. It was a heritage trail along the Singapore River.

After the hike, we had outdoor cooking; cooking macaroni and teriyaki chicken as part of tea break. Different patrols had different ways of cooking their food, some chose to put pineapple on their chicken as a replacement for the teriyaki sauce. It was an exhausting but yet enjoyable day.

On the last day of day camp, we had a game of dog and bone during PT as planned by the PT master. This was followed by Kim’s game in which guides were blindfolded and fed with mysterious food. They were to guess which food they ate. Through then we can see their avidness, everyone were so eager to get fed.

This was the first time Ashmitha and I planed for a camp. It wasn’t as easy as we thought at first as there were many things needed before we made a decision. Coincidentally both of us didn’t feel well throughout the camp but thankfully the camp turned out smoothly with the help of our guiders, YA and guides.

President Guide Award Ceremony

The day started off when the 7 President Guide Awardees (PGA) from other schools like Raffles Girls’ School, Nanyang Girls’ School and Sengkang Secondary School assembled at the Guide House promptly by 9.30am. Ms Alsagoff was our Marching Trainer, and before the bus that was supposed to bring us to Istana arrives, she led us to a round of saluting practices as an attempt to perfect our salutations.

Before we were able to enter the premises of Istana, we had to go a round of body and baggage check to ensure that no sharp or explosive objects are being brought in.

Our first Full-Dress Rehearsal was carried out the State Room together with the 7 other President Scout Awardees. Since Ms Alsagoff has been training us in our marching up and down for the past 2 days, the PGAs were relatively familiar with the procedure, despite some of the minor changes made. With a few more practices on our own, we were mentally and physically prepared by the third Prize-Giving ceremony rehearsal, and have the ensured that the rehearsal proceed smoothly without much hiccups.

By 3.30pm onwards, guests began to arrive, and our Patron, Mrs. S R Nathan made her appearance at roughly 4.10pm, together with Mrs. Joy Balakrishnan, who is the President of Girl Guides Singapore.

The ceremony commenced when Mr. S R Nathan took his seat on the stage. Mr President gave out a dummy scroll to the President Scout Awardees, followed by the President Guide Awardees. Henderson Girl Guides was the first on alphabetical order, followed by PGAs from Nanyang, Raffles and Sengkang.

A photo-taking session with Mr. Nathan was promptly prepared, whereby the Awardees together with her invited guests were able to take a picture at a concaved painting. Our SAC (School Advisory Council) Chairman, Mr. Leong Mun Sum and Mrs. Yeo, together with Henderson Girl Guides 1st COY’s Guiders Mdm Abby Choo and Ms Gloria Leng was also present to witness the ceremony.

After a few more photo shoots with Mr. and Mrs. S R Nathan, Mrs. Joy Balakrishnan and the Commissioners from both Girl Guides Singapore and the Singapore Scouts Association at several venues in Istana, Mr. and Mrs. President then took their leave, and this declared an end to the ceremony.

This being my first time entering Istana, I was overwhelmed with a mixture of feelings. But the climax of my emotions was probably when I finally met up with my parents and mentors. Bursts of happiness and gratitude erupted in me as I looked at the proud faces of my mentors, which led me to recall our school’s aphorism – Today I’m proud of Henderson, Tomorrow Henderson will be proud of me.

Be Prepared Quest 2008

HSS GG won First! (CHAMPION) :D

On 26 November, Henderson sent a team BP Quest at Guides House. Be Prepared Quest is an biannual international quest that to promote the knowledge and spirit of International Girl Guiding. This year, there were more than 40 teams that took part. Henderson 1st Coy sent in 1 team which consists of Mang Teng, Shi Yan, Carine and our reserve, Feng Lin.

In this competition, questions on Guiding are given to test the Guides of their knowledge in Guiding. Guides must first pass the preliminary rounds consisting of 60 MCQ questions under exam-like condition before the top 5 teams they can proceed to the final, which consists of 3 different stages.

Before the competition, the BP team arranged group discussions and prepares notes for one another, and we could only self-study and trust that by putting in more hard work than others, we could win the others by a margin.

Coming as the top 4 from the preliminary round, Henderson Girl Guides 1st COY managed to qualify for the finals. Competing against with are Guides coming from very strong teams like the Philippines Girl Scouts, Raffles Girls, Cedar Girls and Crescent Girls.

Gradually, we fought through the first and second round of the finals, which tested on our Guiding skills and teamwork. The team faced difficulty, as we were not as trained as the guides from other schools in the aspect of gadget making. There was also a misunderstanding in the first round that cost us a few points. Despite the fact that we were lagging behind, we did not let that falter our determination. Instead, we were more motivated than ever at the third, and the last round of the finals.

Last round was a speed buzzer round whereby whichever team presses the buzzer first will get to answer the question. We were generally tested on our knowledge on World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS, our founder-- Lord Baden Powell and his wife and our Guiding skills.

Since discussion is allowed in this round, we managed to catch up with the other participants as we were relatively prepared and could answer most of the questions, thanks to the rapport the team shared. We managed to surpass the rest of the Guides from the local schools, and came into a close match with the Philipino Guides. They had been leading from the start, amazing the judges and Guides with their speed and accuracy in answering the questions. It was a pleasant surprise that by the end of the last round, scores were totaled and Henderson was in the lead!

The results were finally announced shortly after an audience round, and at the Prize-Award Ceremony, our Chief Commissioner, Ms Yvonne Lim presented us each with a medal and a Company trophy! We were the champions for this year 2008 Be Prepared Quest!

Through this competition, the team had understood the importance of the saying “Where there’s a will there’s a way”. We were glad that we had believed in ourselves and pressed on.

Seeing that smile on Mdm Choo’s face, we all gleamed with pride! Not only was this perhaps the best gift and most memorable thing for Mdm Choo, it was also something that we are sure both the school and Guides are proud of!

Activity: Inter Unit Initiative: Oragnic Cheese and Yoghurt Making

On 30/10/08, henderson guides attended a yoghurt and cheese making course in Henderson together with two other schools, cedar guides and queestown guides
It’s a 2 hours plus session, spending 1 hour on theory explaining what yoghurt is all about and the positive and negative impact of organic food and milk. We were rather fascinated to hear that it isn't good to consume milk everyday, but thrics a week instead as it dries up our skins.
For the next hour of practical we did not really have any hands on but more of the instructor showing us the steps/methods of making yoghurt and organic cheese.
The outcome of both the yoghurt and organic cheese didn’t turn out as nice as we expected as it tasted weird and sour, not like those common yoghurt and cheese which we can purchase at the supermarket. The organic ingredients used resuulted in the bitter and sour taste, instead of sweetness.

QSS Campfire

The campfire was small and cosy but yet fun filled. Everyone enjoyed it and didn’t want to say goodbye. Even though Henderson guides came in a little later then the others, they were still warmly welcomed by their fellow guide sisters.

The campfire started at about 6.30pm and the theme was spooky Halloween. The Queensway guides were very innovative as at the entrance they did a small “haunted house” were they dressed up as scary spooky ghosts. After getting to our place, we did a Henderson cheer to boost up our spirit! Following that we had sing-a-long and games.

The games were very out of the box. All the guides were very enthusiastic about the games. They all joined in the fun. In one of the games we were given 3 rolls of newspaper to dress up a guide as a mummy and that lucky person to get chosen from our school was Nicole. The last game was for the school mascot who was dressed up as the spooky Halloween girl. So, as they called them up to go on the stage, I went up as I was representing my school. All the mascots were chosen based on their dancing! As I wasn’t much of a dancer, I was very nervous.

As the campfire came to an end, they released the results to the games. Henderson Girl Guides won 2 games. The ping pong ball and the best mascot dancing! All of us were shocked and we did the Henderson cheer!

The campfire was very innovative and it the first ever Halloween campfire all of us attended. We experienced something new and really enjoyed it.

During the service, we were asked to clean the gym. The gym had an awful smell Therefore, we were told to use the black rags provided to clean all the equipments, we vacuumed the place and clean the window panes. Cleaning the dumbbells was the toughest job. We cleaned them using wet clothes because there were lots of brownish white spots on it and the they stink terribly. At first, we thought that the spots on the dumbbells were mud but after wiping with wet clothes and the dumbbells dried, the white spots came back Sangheetha and I suspect that they were some kind of moss or fungus.

Because we finished cleaning early, Ms Sek asked us to check stock for the PE equipments. We benefit a lot from this because there is a lot of equipment that we don’t know like sepak and soft ball so Ms Sek explained to us.
It was a tiring service but we learnt many things.

The 3 day 2 night camp was a memorable experience. It was really a joy!:D
23 0CT:-
On the first day we gathered at the NE square and kept our bags at the Girl Guide room. We formed a human chain from Girl room to the school field to pass down the things needed for tent pitching and gadget making. This was a rather fast and easy method to transport the things. We managed to pitch our tents despite the slight drizzle. After pitching the tents and building our gadgets in out patrols, we grouped into 4 groups to check the 4 levels of classrooms, as part of our service.
Then, we had our dinner. I would say that this camp food was much better than the previous camps both in cost and taste. After which, we had sing a long, followed by kim's game. For Kim’s game, we had to blind fold our eyes to see how much we trust our friends and test oour senses. This game was pretty fun.
Then, we had amazing race, oraganized by Ashmitha and Pariza. As it was their first time organizing one, they did some mistakes which unfortunately made us stop at station 6 and not 11. For our last station, Pariza and Mona prepared some flour mixed with water and dropped a few sweets in and we had to use our tongue to feel and take it out. After clearing up, we had our shower and then lights off!

24 OCT:-
Rise and Shine. We had our breakfast in the morning. We went to 3 farms as a unit initiative; The Qian Hu fish Farm, Bolloywood vege farm and finally, the goat farm.
We had a self tour around the Fish farm, where Pariza also bought 2 fighting fish!
At the Bollywood vege farm, we had a self exploration and i got to see many types of plants. We even brought back 2 guavas!
Thirdly, and the most interesting, was the goat farm. At the goat farm, we bought some food to feed the goats. Nicole and I accidentally fed the baby goats as we did not read the board and the goat spit the food on Nicole.
We then returned to school. We thanked Mr Buvan for accompanying us to the farms. We took our bags to the commerce room as the dance girls needed to use the dance studio and then had lunch. We had level planning, each level had to plan a game. The sec ones planned modified amazing race, sec twos planned pictionary. For pictionary, the theme was HSS and Girl Guides, And the winning team was praveena’s team.
There were restrictions when playing the games as the o level examinations were going on. For the modified amazing race, guides got into groups of their choice and they were quite a few team buliding activities.
After the modified amazing race, we had footdrill in the dance studio while waitign for the o level exams to end. After the exams ended,we went to play netball at the parade square. After playing at around 6:30pm we prepared for our outdoor cooking. Different patrols had different work and roles to play. Though our food was served at 10pm, due to the moist ground and blowing winds which resulted the fire in not being stable, noone complained. The leaders knew that we wer hungry and gave us biscuits to eat while waiting. Which much co operation, our food was soon ready and everyine had our meal. The food was nice.
Then, in patrols we did our duties of clearing and washed up.
We then had our bath and went to sleep.

25 OCT:-
Rise and Shine.
We had our morning exercise, before breakfast. After having our breakfast, we striked tents and undo our gadgets. After our patrol duties, we played some games and by 12 we had eaten our lunch.
After our lunch we had a briefing for our initiative with RVSS guides at Tiong Bahru. We grouped into 5-6 groups and went to different to flats and went up and down to collect newspaper. Each group had to go up and down two flats. We earned a total of $130 which was indeed all our hard work of approaching people, carrying the papers, and bundling them up.
We then break camp at tiong bahru itself.
Overall I would say camp was GREAT!!

During this CCA meeting, we went hiking to the henderson waves and Telok blangah hill park. We brought our ponchos, food and a water bottle along with us. It was a rainy day and it was so much fun walking wearing our ponchos.

The hike was to help us attain the hiker's badge. Hiking is a form of exercise which keeps us healthy and walking is also environmentally friendly. We also made lots of friends within ourselves and got to know each other more. When we reached the henderson waves, some of us were very scared of the height we were standing on. We were 64.90 metres and more above sea level, as we walked on! We comforted each other and took care of ourselves out there. After admiring the greenery attached to the roads and taking pictures of it, We took crazy shots of ourselves.

After taking photos, we continued walking to our recess area. We went towards the terrace garden. We walked through the dense trees and plants which gave us a jungle feeling. We walked slowly and steadily, up the steep road. When we reached the terrace garden, we had our tasty lunch of bread or sandwiches.

The scenery was fabulous which looked exactly like a palace with staircases and flowers. It was time to go back to school. We arrranged ourselves in neat two rows and got on our way. We climbed and walked on steep steps and it was so much fun. When we had lots of fun, some accidents took place. Many people sliped and falled on the slipery ground. We started to become careful and walked slowly. When we walking on our way, revathi fell down and hurted herself badly. Mang Teng helped her and gave her first aid. They took her back to school so that she could rest in the sick bay.

Seeing this accident, we started to become even more careful of ourselves till we reached near the school. We had to only cross a zebra crossing and a traffic light road. When we stood at the zebra crossing road, Jessica and Mastura ran across the zebra crossing when others were standing and waiting for the car to go first. Mang teng scolded them because it was wrong and it was very dangerous. The car could have knocked them down and the teachers and the drivers could have got into trouble. We continued with the walking being more and more careful and reached the school successfully even though there were some accidents. We had some rest and gave ourselves some claps. After that we meeted outside 2E4 and sang some songs. Fun! After everyone including revathi had came, we sang taps and made our way to our classes. This was one of the most memorable hikes in my life!

Aug 1st GG Meeting

Aug 1st was an exciting day. The girls had a singing competition in the class. We sang patriotic songs to prepare us for the upcoming NDP. There was a Patrol section and also an individual section.

The girls were given 20 min to practise and prepare before the performance.

To make ourselves fit and healthy, we girls embark on a 1 hour Physical training every week before our meetings. We do jumping jacks:

We also played some team building games to foster the bonds between us :) Thanks Ms Yu for coming up with the games!
